Shohei Otani

Shohei Otani received 44% of the votes in our poll, which was the highest by a pretty significant margin.

When a player gets the nickname “The Japanese Babe Ruth”, of course, fans are going to want him on their team, especially Yankee fans.

Otani is an ace on the mound and a slugger at the plate. He wants to be able to pitch and hit in the MLB so an American League team, who can offer him a DH spot when he’s not pitching, could have the advantage in signing him.

The new CBA has taken away the New York Yankees’ typical financial advantage on the international free agent market, so bringing in Otani is not as easy as it would have been even just last year.

The Yankees’ main focus with Otani would be adding him to their starting rotation but they likely wouldn’t be against having him DH when he’s not on the mound.

New York will certainly be in heavy pursuit of Shohei Otani this offseason and if they are able to sign him, expect Otani to DH at least every once in a while in 2018.
