Mike Moustakas

Chase Headley has been a solid third baseman for the Yankees but he’s not exciting enough. He wasn’t exciting enough to stop Brian Cashman from acquiring Todd Frazier before the trade deadline last year.

Top prospect Gleyber Torres is exciting. He’s waiting to take over somewhere in the infield and third base seems like the most logical spot but he’s recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Torres is expected back by spring training but what if he’s not? Why wait around to see if he’s ready when we can open up our checkbook and sign Mike Moustakas?

Moustakas is coming off a career-year with 38 home runs and having just turned 29 in September, he’s the perfect age to throw a lengthy, overpriced contract at.

Does it make sense to lock Moustakas into third base for the foreseeable future when Torres is believed to be near-MLB-ready? Of course not, but it’s 2013 baby and we have more money than we know what to do with!
