2014

2014 was the final year of the “arranged marriage”. Those two guys in the above picture were dismissed at the end of the season, but we didn’t know that at the time. At the time, Rex was brought back for one more year after the team finished 8-8 in 2012. This was finally the year that Rex was going to bring the team back to the playoffs, although we were in the “neutered Rex” era. He never sounded the same once Idzik took over as the general manager.

Onto the season. The season was an unmitigated disaster. The first half saw the Jets go 2-8, rendering them irrelevant quickly. Coming out of the bye it was more of the same. They went 2-4 after the bye week to end the season at 4-12. The Jets won on the last day of the year, beating the Dolphins 37-24, but it wasn’t enough to save the jobs of either Rex Ryan or John Idzik, who were both dismissed at the end of the season.

So to reiterate, the record was 2-4 following the bye. The Jets added to their streak of missing the playoffs. It was another dismal year to add to the growing list since the title game appearance following the 2011 season. Time for a new regime to give it a shot.
