This one didn’t exactly turn out the way it was expected to, did it? Who knew it was going to be the beginning of the end of the Rex Ryan era. Let’s go back.

They were right in the thick of things with a 4-3 record heading into the bye. They lost two out of three coming out of it, but the ship got back on the right track with a three-game winning streak, including wins over the Redskins and Chiefs. Things began to unravel against the Eagles the next week in a 45-19 loss. Victor Cruz put a dagger in the Jets playoff hopes the next week as the Giants beat them 29-14, and a final loss against the Dolphins ended a promising beginning at 8-8.
This was also the year of the Santonio Holmes meltdown. Remember? He became more and more of a problem as the weeks went by. It culminated in week 17 when he was thrown out of the offensive huddle by his teammates. After the game Rex stated that he didn’t know what had happened. That was really the point you can say that things began to crash down on this regime.
Things were about to get interesting in New York the next year, as a certain backup quarterback was brought into town. But to finish off 2011, they went 4-5 after the bye week and got killed by three straight losses to end the season.
