The Jets Need a Quarterback

This might be one of the more obvious statements in the world, but it is still something we can glean from this game.

This is not to say that Josh McCown has been “the problem” this season. For who Josh McCown is, he has played quite well. It’s hard to argue with a guy that has completed 70% of his passes. McCown has put up some of the best numbers of his career. For the most part, he is efficient with the football and keeps the Jets out of trouble.

But the fact of the matter is that he is limited. He has a tough time throwing outside the numbers. More simply put, he cannot take a team on his back and lead them to a win. When talking about a franchise quarterback, that is what we are looking for. At any point during the Bucs game, did anyone feel that McCown was going to lead them to a win? I didn’t think so. He just isn’t that type of quarterback.

This team is closer than anyone thought. The roster is not devoid of talent. They have a talented defense, an up and coming wide receiver group and running backs that can get it done. They need a quarterback that can be “the guy” to lead them. As smart as Chad Pennington, I strongly disagree with his assessment to bring McCown back for another year. It’s time for the Jets to get their guy.
