The Defense is For Real

More from Empire Writes Back

In preparing for the 2017 season, what did we say about the Jets? The defense was going to carry the day. The lack of talent was more on the offensive side of the football. The defensive line would lead the day, led by Muhammad Wilkerson and dominate as one of the best units in football.

It didn’t start out that way. Teams were going up and down the field against the Jets. As good as Jamal Adams is, he would naturally be confused by certain routes and schemes. The offense had to bring the offense up with it.

For the last few weeks, the defense showed that it was for real and that continued against the Bucs. No, they didn’t put up the sack numbers that they did against Buffalo, but they didn’t have to. When you hold a team to 15 points you are going to win more often than not. Unfortunately the offense couldn’t get the job done this week, but the defense did a fine job.

The Jets defense is for real.
