Corner Outfield

This is not a huge need for the New York Mets this offseason. Michael Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes have two-thirds of the Amazins outfield covered and Juan Lagares and Brandon Nimmo are capable of filling the third spot.

However, Conforto is recovering from shoulder surgery and Cespedes has a laundry list of career injuries. Lagares is not great offensively and Nimmo is still unproven with just 250 career at-bats.

Jay Bruce was great for the Mets and after being traded to the Cleveland Indians, he is now a free agent. When asked at the end of August, Bruce said he would “absolutely” consider re-signing with the Mets in free agency despite being traded.

The trade and re-sign move certainly worked for the New York Yankees with Aroldis Chapman last year. New Mets manager Mickey Callaway should also already have a relationship with Bruce from their time in Cleveland.

There are also other corner outfield options on the free agent market for the Mets to consider.

Again, this isn’t a huge need and it could be Jay Bruce or bust, but corner outfield is something for the New York Mets to think about this offseason.
