With the NFL Trade Deadline coming up at 4 pm ET, Miami Dolphins Pro Bowl wide receiver Jarvis Landry is believed to be on the block. Landry’s college teammate and best friend Odell Beckham Jr. wants the New York Giants to reunite the former LSU wideouts.

New York Giants superstar wideout Odell Beckham Jr. seems to be staying productive while recovering from a gruesome ankle injury suffered against the Los Angeles Chargers back in Week 5. In a series of Tweets on his Twitter account, OBJ has been letting the Giants front office know his take on his best friend and LSU college teammate Jarvis Landry being put on the trading block by the Miami Dolphins. It looks like Miami is planning to rebuild after trading Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier today.

The Giants have had a barrage of injuries, most notably with OBJ and their receiving corps with Sterling Shepard out possibly until next week with an ankle injury and free agent acquisition Brandon Marshall out for the season with an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 5 as well. The 12-year veteran was brought in to take the load off OBJ and help a young receiving corps grow further into their potential. However, the season has been far from the Super Bowl aspirations that were predicted as the Giants currently sit at the bottom of the NFC East with a 1-6 record heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.

Aside from the obvious excitement of playing alongside his best friend when he returns from injury next season, a pairing of OBJ and “Juice” would be pretty scary for opposing defenses. They would have to deal with two of the top young receivers in the game at 24 years old (both turning 25 in November). There are so many pros compared to cons for the New York Giants in potentially making this move.

More importantly, they’d keep a disgruntled OBJ happy heading into free agency after making it known he wants to be the “highest paid player” not just the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL. The Giants might be able to save themselves from shelling out one of the largest, if not the largest contract in NFL history by trading for Landry. It’s the perfect opportunity to take one step back to take two steps forward.

More from Empire Writes Back

By acquiring a talent like Landry, the New York Giants, when healthy, would have one of the best young receiving corps in the NFL with Beckham Jr, Landry, and Shepard. Not only does this put the Giants back in the Super Bowl conversation when the 2018 season comes around but it also gives them a lot of optimism heading into a future that has some uncertainty at the quarterback position with Eli Manning being at the tail end of his career.

This move would allow the Giants to not only make positive strides to contend in the NFC East but also push for one last title during the Manning era. In the meantime, they can mold a quarterback they acquire through the 2018 NFL Draft or add another quarterback capable of instantly leading the team once Manning’s time is up.

Whatever the Giants have to trade for Landry would be worth giving up in order to acquire a Pro Bowl wide receiver while taking care of their own superstar wide receiver in the process.

The possibility of having a Super Team in New York would pay dividends for both wideouts as they’d have the potential to win and bring in big endorsements dollars from the biggest market in the NFL. It’s a win-win situation in a season in which the New York Giants won’t have a lot of wins.
