The New York Yankees Still Have One of Baseball’s Best Farm Systems

The youth movement arrived early in the Bronx and helped the New York Yankees get all the way to Game 7 of the ALCS but there are even more talented youngsters coming.

Aaron Judge, Clint Frazier, Jordan Montgomery, Chad Green, and Tyler Wade all graduated from the prospect ranks this season. The Yankees also traded away top prospects Blake Rutherford, Ian Clarkin, Jorge Mateo, James Kaprielian, and Dustin Fowler at the deadline. Yet, believe it or not, New York still ranks third on Joel Reuter’s end of the season farm system rankings.

The Yankees still have the top prospect in all of baseball, Gleyber Torres. Torres is recovering from Tommy John surgery and just started hitting. He’s expected back for spring training and will push for an Opening Day roster spot. Torres is expected to make his major league debut at some point in 2018.

New York also has a quartet of young arms who could contribute in 2018. Chance Adams, Justus Sheffield, Domingo Acevedo, and Albert Abreu could make their big league debuts next season.

Estevan Florial may not see the big leagues for a few more years but he was one of the biggest breakout prospects of 2017.

Miguel Andujar made his debut this season going 3-4 with four RBI. He was sent back down to work on his defense but the Yankees might not be able to keep this kid down for much longer.

Clint Frazier, despite running out of prospect eligibility, has only scratched the surface of the ballplayer he can become.

The Yankees’ great young core has reinforcements coming. With few holes moving forward, there are plenty of talented prospects ready to fill them.

Having a young roster that fell just one game short of the World Series as well as one of the best farm systems in baseball is encouraging for the future of the New York Yankees.
