9. Aaron Hicks Does It All Against the Rival Red Sox

All New York Yankees fans know that they have no bigger rival than the Boston Red Sox. Outside of the postseason, Yankee legends are remembered most for their success against Boston.

He’s not a Yankee legend yet but if Aaron Hicks has more games against the Red Sox like he did on Aug. 11, he’ll certainly be hated in Beantown.

Down 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Hicks somehow kept an inside pitch fair down the right field line for a two-run home run that completely turned the momentum of the game. The Yankees would rally for five runs in the inning and took a 5-3 lead into the ninth.

Aroldis Chapman then loaded the bases with nobody out and the Red Sox were primed to retake the lead.

Chapman got a sac fly for the first out of the inning and Hicks showed off his rocket arm, throwing Eduardo Nunez out at third for a double play. A fly out to center would end the game with the Yankees winning 5-4.

Hicks’ homer got the offense going and his defense got the Yankees out of a serious jam. Beating the Boston Red Sox is always important for New York, especially when battling for the AL East title. The Yanks couldn’t catch the Sox this year but it wasn’t for lack of Aaron Hicks trying.
