New York Yankees: Top 15 Moments of the 2017 Season

12. Derek Jeter Day Ceremony
In a year where the youth movement gave a preview of a bright future, the New York Yankees also looked back at the past when they retired Derek Jeter’s No. 2 and gave him a plaque in Monument Park.
Nobody puts on a ceremony quite like the New York Yankees and this was no different. The Core Four was in attendance among many other Yankee legends. Jeter had his family there as well on Mother’s Day.
The video montages, speeches, and kind words about and from Derek Jeter brought smiles and chills to the packed house at Yankee Stadium.
Masahiro Tanaka gave up six runs in the first inning and eight runs over 1.2 IP, which certainly put a damper on the game, but the pregame festivities were fantastic.
As the Yankees’ current young core gets into the primes of their careers, hopefully, there will be more ceremonies like Jeter’s in 20-25 years.
