New York Yankees: Top 15 Moments of the 2017 Season

3. New York Yankees Complete Epic Comeback Against Baltimore
Who would’ve thought a game way back in late April would be one of the most memorable moments of the season? Well, if you watched the New York Yankees’ epic comeback against the Baltimore Orioles, you may have had an idea.
Mark Trumbo took Bryan Mitchell deep for a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to give the O’s what was thought to be an insurmountable 9-1 lead.
After Didi Gregorius had an RBI-groundout to make it 9-2, Aaron Judge hit his second home run of the game off of Kevin Gausman. Judge’s two-run homer landed in Monument Park and cut the lead to 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth. They weren’t dead yet.
Jonathan Schoop’s two-run single in the seventh made it 11-4 but the Yankees pitching staff shut things down after that. New York’s offense, on the other hand, was just getting started.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jacoby Ellsbury picked a great time for his first career grand slam as he took Vidal Nuno deep into the right field bleachers. Baltimore’s once insurmountable lead was now just 11-8.
Ellsbury then drove in his fifth run of the game with a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth to cut the lead to 11-9 and Starlin Castro stepped up to the plate as the tying run.
Falling to one knee, Castro crushed the first pitch he saw from Brad Brach into the left field bleachers, knotting things up at 11-11.
Having complete momentum heading into extra innings, the Yankees wrapped things up quickly. Matt Holliday came up in the bottom of the tenth inning with two on and one out. Holliday crushed the first pitch he saw the opposite way into the Yankee bullpen and New York walked it off, topping the Orioles 14-11.
This was an unbelievable comeback. The New York Yankees scored the final ten runs of the game and outscored Baltimore 13-2 over the final four and a half innings. Trumbo’s grand slam went from the nail in the Yankees’ coffin to the turning point in the game for New York.
This comeback showed the grit and the heart the 2017 New York Yankees had. As it would end up, this was just a preview of more epic rallies still to come.
