New York Jets Week 7 Position Report Card
By Nolan Rich
Finally! a good performance by the defensive line. Muhammad Wilkerson and Leonard Williams must have heard the criticism of their play through the first few games because the line looked completely different against the Dolphins.
The line was great against the run holding Miami to just 53 yards on the ground. While the front didn’t have a sack, the pressure was noticeable as they Jets were getting good pressure on both Jay Cutler and Matt Moore all game. This pressure included Wilkerson picking off a deflected pass which led to a Jets touchdown. Overall Ealy, Williams, and Wilkerson did a great job of getting to and hitting the quarterback all afternoon.
This defense is built around the defensive line and it’s good to see they finally turned a corner against the Dolphins. Even though they didn’t record a sack, their improved pressures and ability to stop the run will make life easier for the rest of the defense if the line can play like this every week.
