Can the New York Jets continue the trend from last week and start quickly?

There is not one New York Jets fan that isn’t proud of their team after the performance against New England. The fact that the team was competitive from start to finish was a pleasant surprise. They got hit in the mouth but didn’t fall down like they had in the past. Instead, they stayed in their and fought until the final gun. Great job by them for that.

Now they take on a 3-2 Dolphins team that is coming off of a come from behind win over the Falcons. Time for this young Jets team to earn its first sweep of a divisional opponent. How are they going to do it? What they are going to have to do is recreate recent history.

What do you mean, Alan?  Thank you for asking, I’ll tell you. Look at what the Jets did last week early against New England. Up against an obviously tough opponent, they hit them in the mouth! They took it up and down the field twice to start the game off and gave themselves a 14-0 lead.

Even if you go back to the earlier meeting between these two teams, the Jets were up 10-0 at halftime. Granted, it took most of the half to get there, but they did get there. They put the opponent behind. They struck first and opened up a lead.

It may not sound important but it is. When you come out and take a lead on someone, you change how they attack you. Going ahead by two scores starts to change your opponent’s game plan.

Unless you are New England, of course. We will throw out last week as an unusual exception.

If they can take a big lead early in this one, Jay Ajayi begins to be phased out of the equation. The Dolphins would have to begin relying on Jay Culter, and that didn’t work out so well last time. Granted, he has had his moments in his career, but he has also had his “moments”, if you know what I mean.

The Dolphins did make a superb comeback last week against a tough Falcons team, but that isn’t the way to play on a weekly basis. Jay Cutler doesn’t have it in him. Put them behind and the Jets will win.

I think some of us thought it was a mirage, the Jets starting off so solidly last week. It wasn’t. The offense showed it had the ability to jump on a team quickly. This Dolphins team isn’t nearly as tough. Let’s see them get off to another fast start.
