. . . Running Backs. D

Another day, another lackluster running back performance by the New York Jets. Even with Matt Forte back in the lineup, the running game churned out a lackluster 47 yards on 20 carries. Forte and rookie Elijah McGuire ran for 22 yards apiece against one of the worst run defenses in the entire league.

This was a golden opportunity for this unit to take over. If the running game could wear down New England’s defense and keep Tom Brady on the sidelines, which is the best strategy when playing the Patriots, the Jets had a fighting chance.

Instead, the team had to rely too much on Josh McCown, who has been a solid game manager but shouldn’t be relied on to carry the entire offense.

Luckily, the only reason this isn’t a failing grade is Matt Forte’s impact in the passing game. Forte led the Jets in receptions with eight, going for 59 yards.
