New York Jets: Earning their wings vs the New England Patriots
Presenting our New York Jets wing earners for week six against the New England Patriots.
The New York Jets fought the good fight against the New England Patriots, going up by 14 early in the game. Unfortunately, the Patriots were able to grab the momentum back, catch up to and ultimately pass by New York. A late comeback, aided by a bad call, came up a bit short and the final score was 24-17.
The good news was the fact that the Jets could play with these guys. There were a lot of people downplaying the wins to date, saying that the opponents were too soft. The Patriots are not a soft team and Gang Green was able to stay with them and lose by a mere seven points. It’s not a victory but it’s a good showing.
Let’s see who our wing earners, or game ball winners, are for this week:
JOSH MCCOWN
Josh McCown showed once again that he is a talented “bridge” quarterback. He took advantage of a porous New England secondary to the tune of 354 yards and two touchdowns through the air. He also completed 65.9% of his passes (31-47). The more surprising part is his ability to make plays with his feet. McCown was able to move around in the pocket to buy himself time and when nobody was open he made plays with his feet. He scrambled three times for a total of 21 yards.
JEREMY KERLEY
I wanted to get the new/former Jet into the mix, and this game was the perfect one to get it done. Through his first tenure with the team he was a reliable third down receiver. After re-joining the Jets, he has been just as reliable, catching all of his targets thrown to him coming into the game. He only caught two passes against New England but they were big. The first was a big third down conversion and the second was a touchdown pass. Nice job out of Kerley today.

DARRON LEE
It’s time to get Darron Lee in on the game ball action. He looked very good against the run. He was all over the field and was able to force a Mike Gillislee fumble. Lee finished with five tackles, four solo to go along with the fumble. It’s his awareness and ability to diagnose plays faster that is most noticeable. He is finally starting to realize some of that potential that he has.
