New York Jets Week 5 Position Report Card
By Nolan Rich
Like the offensive line, the defensive line couldn’t take advantage of a below average offensive line. Considering this is supposed to be the team’s strength, it is concerning the performance through five games.
Once again this unit failed to get to the quarterback and has been abysmal at applying pressure. It was clear that without Kony Ealy in the lineup this line will have trouble applying any pressure.
Even this unit’s strength at stopping the run apparently didn’t make the trip to Cleveland as New York surrendered 140 yards on the ground and 4.2 yards per carry to the NFL’s 25th rushing offense.
Through five weeks this group has been a huge disappointment, and if the team wants to keep contending they’ll need this unit to step up in both pass rushing and stopping the run.
