Which New York Jets earned their wings in the victory over the Browns?

The New York Jets have won three games in a row. Can you believe they are tied for the lead in the AFC East? At 3-2, the Jets are now tied with the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills for the top spot in the division. I guess someone forgot to tell them they were tanking, huh? Next week, the Jets take on the Patriots for at least a share of the division lead.

We have time to talk about that game though. Tonight we are still looking at the victory over the Browns to run the record to 3-2. It was a rough first half but the Jets took over in the second. They survived a late touchdown to win it by the score of 17-14.

53. 17. 30. Final. 14

As always, we give out three game balls to those Jets who earned their wings. So who earned their wings in this one?

More from Empire Writes Back

Let’s get to our first one, a young guy starting off his career with a big play:

  • Marcus Maye, S: The Jets spent a lot of draft capital on their two rookie safeties, Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. A lot of attention has been paid to Adams and rightly so. They have moved him all over the defensive formation and he has excelled. Not much has been made about Maye who has played well. He gets number one to go with his first interception of his career. Here’s to many more.
  • Morris Claiborne, CB: During his time with Dallas, Morris Claiborne has been a quality corner but has had trouble staying on the field. So far in 2017, he has stayed on the field and he has been good. Today he posted 8.5 tackles and an interception.
  • Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE: It has seemed like forever since the Jets had a tight end make a difference in a football game. Enter Seferian-Jenkins. He has really turned his life around since he arrived in New York and his realizing all of his ability that earned him a second round draft pick.

Next: Jets at Browns: Immediate observations and thoughts

The Jets entered this game facing the team that has been the worst at defending tight ends. Seferian-Jenkins took advantage with six receptions, 29 yards and a touchdown. He looks athletic and is making the plays he is supposed to make. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. “ASJ” from Tampa Bay to New York fits that bill entirely.
