The New York Islanders’ regular season begins Friday with a showdown in Columbus. Here’s a recap of last year and a preview of the upcoming season.

Last Season

The Isles’ season last year was not ideal. To say the season was a major let down would be an understatement.

The Islanders missed the playoffs by a single point.

They also fired their head coach Jack Capuano during the season, the interim coach became former team captain, Doug Weight.

Current team captain, John Tavares, suffered from injuries. He was able to play in 77 games, but the injuries were nagging.

Captain JT still led the way in points. He was followed by Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, then Nick Leddy.

Isles fans also caught a glimpse of stud prospect Joshua Ho-Sang. He tallied up ten points in 21 games played. As his NHL reps go up, so will his production.

As a team, the Isles were able to rally off six straight wins and almost come back from last place in the conference to a playoff berth.

The team got really hot but just ran out of time.

It was good for the fan base and team to end on such a high note in what may be considered a lost season. But the youth movement emerged.
