New York Jets Week 4 Position Report Card
By Nolan Rich
Without question the two stars of this unit were Kony Ealy and David Bass. Both were providing the best pass rush and pressure on Blake Bortles throughout the afternoon. Ealy made the best defensive play of the afternoon batting down a pass, intercepting it, and nearly returning in for a Jets touchdown. Ealy was constantly in Bortles face and while he didn’t have a sack, he did bat down four passes.
Ealy has his best game as a Jet even after losing a family member earlier this week. For his performance, he was awarded this week’s game ball by Todd Bowles.
Bass also provided the team with a pass rush and provided the team’s lone sack on the afternoon. Still, the Jets did surrender 175 yards on the ground which is concerning because the backbone of their defense is stopping the run.
Another concern was it was another quiet day for Leonard Williams and Muhammad Wilkerson. Both have struggled in the first quarter of the season both combining for 30 tackles and zero sacks. If the Jets defense wants to take the next step, they need Williams and Wilkerson to step up.
