Here are our initial observations and highlights from the New York Jets the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New York Jets took on the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium this afternoon. It looked like the Jets were going to win the game going away but the Jaguars came back late on a Josh McCown turnover. The ballgame went to overtime before the Jets won it on a Chandler Catanzaro field goal. Here are our thoughts and observations:

52. Final. 23. 30. 20

  • The running game was back in a big way this week. It was a career high day for Bilal Powell who posted 163 yards on 21 carries, including the touchdown below. Elijah McGuire added 93 yards on ten carries and his first career touchdown. It has been a long time since the Jets put up 256 yards rushing. Great job.
  • Josh McCown was efficient once again, throwing for 224 yards and 22-31 passing. His one interception came when Powell fell down. Like it or not, he is getting the job done for this team at this time. McCown looks better than anyone, including myself, expected him to look.
  • Maybe one day the Jets will have a consistent punter. Lachlan Edwards put up a great punt to pin the Jaguars back in overtime, setting up the final drive and field goal, but earlier he came up with a bad one, and he did a couple of times during regulation. Can’t they get someone consistent?
  • The discipline needs to get better. The Jets have been penalized a lot in 2017 and today was no different. Ten penalties for 70 yards is simply too many. Todd Bowles needs to clean that up.
  • Kony Ealy looked good, deflecting three passes. If you can’t get to the passer as a down lineman, get your hands up and knock it down. That’s what Ealy did and he did it when it was important.
  • Darron Lee flashed some ability today. He wasn’t great in pass coverage, but he was improved. He also made some stops in the run. Lee has a long way to go to make fans forget the pass but he showed some signs against Jacksonville.
  • This one wasn’t about the Jets, but Leonard Fournette is going to be a tough man to play against for a long time. He is a tough player to bring down.

Next week, the Jets take a trip out to Cleveland to face the Browns. DeShone Kizer and his team remain winless after a 31-7 loss to the Cincinnatti Bengals. Some believe this could be the game that determines the first pick in the NFL draft. It could be a week that the Jets are favored. We shall see during the week.
