New York Jets coach Todd  Bowles is quickly moving on to the next opponent after beating the Dolphins.

Many felt that the New York Jets could actually go 0-16 this season. The lack of on paper talent on the roster caused much of the football landscape to be skeptical. Well, skeptical of everything except that the Jets will hold the number one draft pick in 2018. It’s for this reason that the team has carried an “us against them” mentality into the 2017 season.

But the Jets flipped the script and crushed the Miami Dolphins. the 20-6 score was not indicative of the Jets performance. They thoroughly destroyed Miami on both sides of the football. The offense couldn’t score until the last play and the defense gave up 20 points. Other than that the Dolphins looked great. The Jets looked like a good football team.

Coach Todd Bowles is not staying enamored with the fact that his team won a ball game. To his credit, he is moving on quickly:

"“It’s important because it’s the next game,” head coach Todd Bowles said of this Sunday’s matchup against the Jaguars. “Obviously we didn’t want to start 0-2, but we did. We won this one and the next game is important because it’s the next game, but we definitely want to get on a winning streak. Hopefully we can string some wins together and go from there, but we have to concentrate on this week.”"

Oh how Belichick of him, am I right?

More from Empire Writes Back

At first read, the quote did kind of sound like Bill Belichick. If he had said, “We are on to Jacksonville” it would have been perfect. Place on a hooded sweatshirt and it would have been a Patriots press conference.

All jokes aside, however, this is completely the right way for the coach to handle it. He has to keep his team focused on the one game at a time mentality. The roster features many young players as we know. Some of them earned their first NFL win this past Sunday. That first win can give these young players quick illusions about running off a string of victories and making the playoffs.

It is important to stay focused on one game. Anything can happen in this league.

Next: The win over Miami was good for the organization

Ironically, Bowles almost started to sound like a young player when he hinted at a winning streak. Obviously, though, he hopes that can happen. What coach wouldn’t? Anything can happen even if most of us don’t think so. Wins would help him keep his job as well, despite what the interim owner said. But Bowles, ultimately, is focusing on the next game only, and this is a good thing.
