New York Jets Week 3 Position Report Card
By Nolan Rich
It’s been a slow start to the season for the Jets running backs and Sunday was once again a frustrating game on the ground. As a team, the Jets averaged three yards per carry and didn’t have a single catch against the Dolphins. The one silver lining was Bilal Powell punching it in from one yard out for New York’s second touchdown in the second quarter.
Matt Forte left early with a toe injury and while he did not return to the game, early reports are that the injury is not severe. Forte had eight carries for 25 yards while Powell only had 37 yards on a team high 15 rushing attempts.
Rookie Elijah McGuire again showed flashes and made the most of his seven carries for 34 yards. However, he did have the team’s only turnover of the game coughing up a fumble.
While McGuire has made his case for more touches, Bilal Powell will need to rebound next game or he will continue to lose carries to the rookie. With the running game in its current state, the Jets will look to ride whatever running backs has the hot hand moving forward.
