Todd  Bowles, head coach of the New York Jets, is still confident in his team despite the way they have played over the past two weeks.

Unless you are a fan of the tank, the New York Jets have not started well. They are 0-2 and have not really been that competitive. I mean, we expected this out of the offense, but the defense was supposed to be better than this. After two games, it is surprising to see the Jets defense ranked 30th in the league. They have been playing like a group that is, frankly, overrated.

Despite all of that, head coach Todd Bowles is still confident in his defense. He attributed the big plays on the ground to missed tackles, and believes they can be fixed (team press release):

"We’ll fix it with practicing. We can do it with bags and everything else. We have to wrap up. We have to wrap up and keep our head up. That’s normal."

He went on to say that it is simply missed tackling, not focus problems, and not the players being young. It’s missed tackles and that is it. If that’s the case, that can be taught and corrected. But the problem is that it seems to be staying the same over the first two weeks and not getting any better.

He doesn’t believe that it is the fundamentals either:

"No, it’s not the fundamentals. We just missed a few tackles. It’s not everybody. It’s not a full-time thing. Those two plays just happened to happen. It’s not basic fundamentals for those guys."

This is where we begin to wonder what coach is actually watching. It’s great that he believes in his guys. He can’t coach them if he doesn’t believe in them. But the problems are more than just the missed tackles.

Darron Lee still stinks, no matter how much they work on the tackling fundamentals. He can’t cover anybody. All game long he was running after guys like a little kid does in a pee wee game. This defense just isn’t as good as everyone thought it was.

Todd Bowles is a confident guy and I like it. He doesn’t show that emotion while he works but he must feel that way or he can’t lead these men. However, some of the comments are a little too much. The problems aren’t as simple as he thinks.
