Week 2 positional report card for the New York Jets.

QUARTERBACK

When talking about Josh McCown it’s clear that fans need to have reasonable expectations for the journeyman quarterback. However, McCown was one of the few bright spots for the New York Jets in Week 2 being a steady game manager under center. This was in spite of the offensive line that made McCown run for his life and had him sacked four times.

The biggest criticism last week was that McCown didn’t take shots down the field, but he did show the ability to go deep with a perfect 34 yard strike to Jermaine Kearse for a touchdown. It’s clear that McCown is getting more comfortable in the offense and realizes that he is going to have to take shots down the field for the Jets to score points.

Throughout two games McCown has shown what he is a stable game manager under center. While he may not be in the team’s long-term plans, if he continues to play like this the Jets should look to bring him back as a mentor and backup quarterback next season.
