Forte Run

As promised, the next one is about Matt Forte. This one comes from the ensuing drive in the third quarter, though it ends with the same result.

Here we have McCown in the shotgun with Forte lined up directly to his right. Forte is going to take the ball off of right guard, but get forced to bounce it to the outside. Why? Because the line gets no push. Keep an eye on Tre’Davious White (red circle). He comes up from his cornerback position.

As Forte takes the handoff there is already a missed block in the backfield. He is running away from the defender so that particular opponent isn’t a cause of great concern. The right side of the line needs to do its job.

Unfortunately, they do not. Look inside the circle and there are multiple Bills ready to make the tackle. In an attempt to make something out of nothing, he bounces it to the outside. But White is waiting for him.

White comes up and makes the hit on Forte, bringing him down for no gain.

This was not a shock to see the Jets offense struggle. They are expected to do so all year. But, when the mistakes are along these lines, they are fixable. This is not about the roster. It’s about getting the job done. Forte and Powell are talented players, but the line has to help them out. If they don’t they both will be anemic for the entire season.
