Will there be any repercussions for the Red Sox?

There will be repercussions but not in the way we would like. Unfortunately the MLB is not the NCAA and there will be no vacated wins that might help the Yankees catch up in the division.

However, there will be some pretty hefty fines placed on the Red Sox and possibly the loss of draft picks. Expect commissioner Manfred to go about this in a similar way to that of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell when he handled Deflate Gate (yet another New England based team by the way).

Unfortunately for us however, sign stealing is not illegal in Major League Baseball. Sign stealing has been going on since the MLB started. Fortunately for us, the use of technology on the baseball field and in the dugout is illegal.

The last time the MLB faced anything like this between two teams was when the Cardinals hacked into the Astros database and were stealing information about players. The Cardinals had to pay $2 million to the Astros and give up their 56th and 75th picks to Houston.

This problem of stealing signs however is nothing in comparison to that issue that sent Cardinals owner Chris Correa to jail for nearly 4 years and banned him from the MLB for life. We could possibly see similar punishments to that situation though.

Next: Can the Yankees win the division?

It is more than likely that the Red Sox will be fined in a large way, but not for stealing signs, for using technology to do so. The Red Sox could also lose a few picks in upcoming drafts, but they will not be given to the Yankees due to the fact that the Red Sox were doing this to everyone and not just the Yankees.
