The New York Jets have re-signed Jeremy Kerley to a one year contract.

Ladies and gentlemen of New York Jets nation, he is back. Get used to seeing this guy in the green and white, because a certain wide receiver and punt returner is back for a second tour of duty. The Jets lacked experience at the wide receiver position but added some today. This is from NFL Insider Adam Schefter:

To make room, the team announced that Julian Howsare has been waived.

There isn’t a lot to say that would be negative on this one. The Jets needed experience at the wide receiver position and they added some. It’s always helpful to add a player that knows New York, and Kerley knows how to play in New York. Prior to his signing, the only receiver with more than one year of experience in the league is Jermaine Kearse.

He also has had success in New York. It’s hard to argue with a guy who posted 56 receptions and 827 yards with Mark Sanchez as the quarterback. We all know what became of Sanchez, so only the most talented of wide receivers can excel with him at the helm.

Now, will Kerley take away reps from young players like Chad Hansen and ArDarius Stewart? Probably. But on the other hand, they will also learn a great deal from him about playing receiver in the NFL.

They will be come better route runners, better receivers, and better pros.
