The New York Mets David Wright is headed to surgery yet again.

Just a couple of days ago, we talked about how David Wright needs to accept the inevitable and retire from the New York Mets. He has made a valiant effort to return. It’s a credit to him that he has the type of work ethic that would allow him to even get to a rehab stint. But he has a daughter. He needs to be able to hold her and do everything a Dad should be able to do. The Mets will keep him around the organization, but it’s time to taking playing off the table.

Well David now has more motivation to retire. SNY is reporting this morning that Wright will undergo surgery to repair his right rotator cuff. He played three games for the St. Lucie Mets before shutting it down due to shoulder pain. As we have seen with rotator cuffs and pitchers, this will likely take some time to rehabilitate. Wright will need to get the strength back in that shoulder before he can even think of coming back.

More from Empire Writes Back

This just reaffirms my position from the previous post. It’s time for David Wright to put his cleats away and go home for good. He has a long life ahead of him and he needs to be able to enjoy it. We can all appreciate his urge to come back and contribute, but his body is saying otherwise.

When your body gives you a problem during rehabilitation, it is telling you to stop whatever you are doing. It’s trying to draw your attention to the fact that you are making a mistake.

It would be terrible to see Wright injure himself on a more permanent basis. Wright has been a great face of the franchise and the Mets will surely allow him to continue in another capacity. But playing needs to be off the table.

Mets fans will always love you David, but it’s enough. Stop trying, it’s only making things worse.
