The Development of Willy Hernangomez

The seven foot 22-year-old out of Spain truly showed his worth during his rookie campaign.

While playing in 72 games, Hernangomez averaged 8.2 ppg, 7 rpg  on just over 18 minutes per game.

Just a year after Porzingis’s historic rookie year and receiving a unanimous selection to the 2015-16 All-Rookie First Team, his teammate followed his foot steps.

The 35th overall pick was named to the 2016-17 NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.

This past season for Willy Billy was historic in a way. When he played 36+ minutes, he averaged 16 ppg, 13.6 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.1 spg and 1 bpg.

Over the past 30 seasons, only two rookies have posted numbers like this. These two rookies are Hernagomez and Shaquille O’Neal.

This next season will be a big test for Hernangomez. His role will be much more depended on. Giving him 25+ minutes per game will transform the front court for the Knicks alongside Porzingis.
