The New York Jets have claimed TE Will  Tye off of waivers.

They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The New York Jets have made that true on Sunday, making a waiver claim on a guy that was close to home:

As of the writing of this post, no corresponding move has been announced. The move will likely come at tight end as the Jets are carrying Eric Tomlinson, Jordan Leggett, Jason Vander Laan and now Tye. The Jets, rest assured, won’t go ahead with four tight ends on the 53 man roster.

Good move here by the Jets. They needed help at the tight end position, especially early. Seferian-Jenkins will miss two games for a DUI suspension. Behind him are the inexperienced Leggett and Vander Laan.

It’s not that Tye is an aged veteran, he’s not. But in two years, he has posted 90 receptions, 859 yards and four touchdowns. Last season he posted a career high 48 receptions after posting 42 as a rookie.

Tye is a talented blocker as well as the passing game. On a team that will be turning the team over to a young quarterback, reliable weapons are of the utmost importance. Tye will be a welcome addition to this offense.

In another addition, the Jets have claimed Damore’ea Stringfellow, WR from the Dolphins (per Mike Garafolo). He posted a 99 yard touchdown during the preseason.

There will likely be more moves to come. Stay tuned this afternoon and evening.
