The New York Mets have gotten used to losing players and Michael Conforto is the next man up. He is off for season-ending surgery.

The New York Mets have gotten used to seeing players head to the disabled list. We could do an entire post about the players that have been helped off of the field. It has afflicted both the pitchers and the regular players. At this rate, it’s amazing that Terry Collins has been able to field a semi-competitive team.

We can officially add Michael Conforto to that list. As reported on SNY, Conforto will go ahead with surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his shoulder. The surgery is set to take place in Los Angeles and the recovery time is unclear at this point. There is no guarantee that he will be ready for spring training when it opens next year.

According to the NY Daily News, Conforto is set to get a second opinion but it is not likely to differ from the Mets doctors. They are going to agree with the surgical recommendation.

Matt Cerone of the Mets Blog believes, after talking to professionals, that Conforto will miss time next year, but the injury also is rare. We will just have to sit and wait.

It’s a tough break for Conforto who was having a career year. In 109 games he managed a .279 average, 27 homeruns and 68 RBI. His slugging percentage was .555 and his OPS was .939.

Then again, injuries have been par for the course with the Mets.
