43. 2. 14. Final. 6

The Yankees have been in the first AL wild card spot for a while now, but their lead is starting to diminish as the season moves on. This series with the Red Sox is quite possibly the most important series of the entire season for the Yankees.

The Red Sox are currently 4.5 games ahead of the Yankees in the AL East and the Yankees have three games left in New York against Boston. If the Bombers can manage to sweep the Red Sox they would be only 1.5 games behind them in the AL East and potentially four games ahead of the Twins for the Wild Card.

Thursday night, CC Sabathia went six innings strong and got the win for the Yanks. Sabathia has stepped up in a big way this year against the Red Sox, boasting a 4-0 record against their rivals. In those four wins, CC has gone six innings three times and eight innings once.

Now, we look forward to Friday night’s game in the Bronx as Boston will send Doug Fister to the mound and the Yankees will send Sonny Gray. Gray has struggled since coming to New York. He has a 2-3 record and has let up nine earned runs in his five starts.

However, Doug Fister has been worse. Fister has a 3-7 record this season with a 4.53 ERA.  The Yankees have seen Doug Fister once this season and they ran him out of the ballpark in just 2.2 innings. In those 2.2 innings, the Yankees managed to score three runs on four hits. Expect the Yankees to score early and often against Fister Friday night.

Friday Night Prediction: Yankees win 5-2
