NT Steven McLendon   Age: 31

At 31, McLendon’s age could put him on the chopping block. Another factor that hurts McLendon’s long-term future with the team is his inability to stay healthy. Last season, he only played in 11 games and has only played one full healthy season over his past four years in the NFL.

If Deon Simon, who was the starter over the final three games in 2016, wins the starting job, the Jets may make the decision to cut bait and allow Simon to establish himself as a starter.

Age, injury problems, and the Jets plan to get younger in 2017 are strikes against McLendon surviving on the roster before opening day.

The possibility of the Jets moving to a 4-3 defense also hurts McLendon’s chances. As a nose tackle, there wouldn’t be a spot for McLendon in a 4-3 defensive front.
