Shortstop: Amed Rosario

It was clear in 2017 that Amed Rosario should have been the Mets everyday shortstop by midseason. Despite taking longer to reach the big leagues than fans wanted, Rosario, like Smith, will get the chance to play out the remainder of the season and hopefully get through some of the growing pains to take over the position next season.

Rosario has already flashed his bat, speed, and fielding in his short tenure with the team and has proven that he can indeed be the future at shortstop. It makes no sense for the Mets to explore another option for shortstop in 2018. The team could explore a veteran backup to fill holes on the bench, but it is clear that the Mets should allow Rosario to be the starter next season as he brings many great attributes to the position.

Rosario could be a future star for the New York Mets, but in 2018, the team just needs him to be a reliable shortstop who will bolster the team’s defense.
