Buffalo Bills Drought Series: Top Curses
The Curse of The Pan American Exposition
It might be beyond crazy to blame a football team losing because of a historical event in 1901.
But I think the writing is on the wall here.
Buffalo is not really a city known for anything of immense historical significance.
The 1901 Pan American is perhaps why?
What does this have to do with football? Everything.
In 1901 Buffalo, New York had all the assets to be a top tier American City.
Great people, Niagara falls, and a nice, clean, quiet, and private city.
Buffalo was ready to put them selves on the map in 1901.
The first “big event” in the city’s history was hosting the Pan American Exposition.
Nobody could even fathom what would happen next.
Then President William McKinley, was shot and would eventually die of his wounds.
That would set the tone of the ill fated destiny of the city in big events.
From the first one, in 1901, being in the spotlight and the President was literally shot and killed.
From, 1991 in Tampa with the entire country watching Buffalo’s team about to take down New York’s juggernaut Giants, “wide right” happened.
Every time the World is watching Buffalo do something it has gone horribly, horribly, wrong in a second.
The events that transpired in 1901 was the standard set.
The Bills had many chances to break that tone that was set, but after four straight losses in the Super Bowl and countless more playoff loses.
The drought could be happening simply because “the gods” have stopped trying to give Buffalo a chance in the national spotlight, and the Bills might be the most significant thing about Buffalo.
This is not anything the Bills can control to stop.
It kills me to write this but the Bills and Buffalo might just have to keep playing the waiting game.
