New York Jets 2017 Roster Preview: Defensive Linemen
By Sean Dyer
Patrick Gamble, Mike Pennel, Devon Still, Jeremy Faulk, and Claude Pelon
Patrick Gamble is an undrafted free agent out of Georgia Tech. Gamble had 7.5 sacks for Georgia Tech last year. He’s listed with the third-team defensive line and is a longshot to make the 53-man roster. The practice squad is more likely for Patrick Gamble.
Mike Pennel has spent the last three seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He started five games for Green Bay in 2015 and totaled 25 tackles and a sack. Pennel’s 2016 was then derailed by a pair of four-game suspensions. He’s looking for a bounce back year but is the third-team defensive tackle. He’ll have to fight for his spot.
Devon Still is best known for his daughter Leah and her fight with cancer. She just celebrated two years in remission this past March.
He spent three years with the Cincinnati Bengals and part of last season with the Houston Texans. Still has some catching up to do as he didn’t sign with the Jets until early August. He’s listed on the third-team defense and has an uphill battle.
Jeremy Faulk went undrafted out of Garden City Community College after a rocky college career. He put up big numbers but never got a chance to prove it on the highest collegiate level. He, like Still, signed in early August and has an uphill battle to make the roster. Faulk’s best bet is the Jets practice squad.
Claude Pelon went undrafted out of USC in 2016 and spent last season on and off the Jets practice squad. Another year on New York’s practice squad is the best-case scenario for Pelon as he’s a 53-man roster longshot.
