New York Jets 2017 Roster Preview: Defensive Linemen
By Sean Dyer
Lawrence Thomas, Deon Simon, and Anthony Johnson
Lawrence Thomas appeared in three games for the Jets in 2016, starting one. He made four total tackles.
Thomas’ rookie season was cut short due to a torn labrum. He will battle for a reserve role again this season. He’s currently listed as a second-team defensive end on the New York Jets unofficial depth chart.
Deon Simon saw action in all 16 games last season including one start. He recorded 23 total tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Simon will look to expand his role in 2017. He’s listed as the backup nose tackle and if Steve McLendon misses time with another injury, Deon Simon could step into the starting lineup.
Anthony Johnson is making his way around the AFC East. Johnson appeared in seven games for the Miami Dolphins in 2014, then four games and one start for the New England Patriots last year before finishing the year in New York, appearing in seven games.
In total, Johnson has only recorded 14 tackles. He’s listed as a backup defensive end for Gang Green.
