New York Giants 2017 Roster Preview: Safeties
By Sean Dyer
Darian Thompson
Darian Thompson was the New York Giants third round pick in 2016 and was supposed to be the perfect free safety to pair with Landon Collins.
Unfortunately, Thompson played in just two games before going on injured reserve with a foot injury.
Based on Thompson’s time at Boise State, he should make a good free safety, playing center field behind Landon Collins in the box.
Over his college career, Thompson had 19 interceptions, breaking Eric Weddle’s Mountain West Conference record. Thompson can also contribute in the run game, registering 15 tackles for loss in his career.
After “redshirting” his rookie season, Darian Thompson will look to start over in 2017. He is believed to be the frontrunner to start at free safety, finally completing Giants fans dream pairing with Landon Collins.
I was a big fan of Darian Thompson when the New York Giants drafted him. After missing most of his rookie year, I am excited to see what he can do with Big Blue.
With Darian Thompson playing center field, Landon Collins in the box, and the Giants cornerback trio shutting down opposing wide receivers, New York could have one of the best secondaries in the NFL.
