The last few hours have been emotional for Mets fans as the team announced late Friday night that Curtis Granderson has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The team tweeted out that the fan favorite outfielder was shipped to LA, along with cash considerations, for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The trade comes at no surprise. “Grandyman” has been in midst of trade talks since the July 31st deadline. Granderson has been a great player for the Mets on and off the field for the team since

More from New York Mets

he arrived on the scene in 2014.

He is one of few Mets players of the last 15 years to truly live up to the contract he signed.

As if the base clearing double vs the Dodgers in the 2015 NLDS and multiple home runs in the 2015 World Series were not worth $60 million alone, his leadership in the locker room is worth it as well.

The Mets got 4 great years and every dime paid to him was worth it.

He will finish his Mets tenure with two playoff appearances and one National League championship. His quest for a World Championship will now continue out West as a member of the leagues best Dodgers.

In another roster move that was announced Saturday morning, the Chicago Cubs have claimed back up veteran catcher Rene Rivera off of waivers.

There were talks that the Cubs were interested in Rivera and pitcher Seth Lugo in July but the Cubs’ trade for Alex Avilia seemed to halt the process.

The move could likely be a monetary one as the Mets will not have to pay his $1.75 million salary this year.

The team has also activated pitcher Tommy Milone and recalled catcher Kevin Plawecki to fill out the roster spots.

The Mets’ theme for this “revamp” year has remained consistent:

They want to dump veterans and get prospects or cash in return allowing them to build for the future.
