Mike Williams

Selected 4th Overall, 2002 Draft

There are a ton of Mike Williams’ to have come and gone in the NFL but I think all Bills know about

this offensive tackle.

After an abysmal season in 2001 the Bills were all set to full on rebuild.

Landing the 4th overall selection, the Bills had pretty much the entire draft board wide open.

The Bills, wanting and needing to go offense, went to build the O-line.

Williams was a consensus All-American out of the fabled football school, Texas University.

He was widely considered the best tackle in the draft alongside Bryant McKinnie.

But, the cards didn’t fall in the Bills’ favor. Williams never worked hard enough to adjust to what the team needed him to do, he did not care.

The team needed him to switch sides on the line, he failed, they moved him to guard, he also played miserably there.

With a lack of work ethic, and all the “top draft pick” buzz in his head he was unsurprisingly released by the Bills in 2006.

He was out of football soon after. The Bills wouldn’t draft an offensive linemen that early for years, and still have not in the first round since.

McKinnie went on to become a stalwart linemen, making a Pro Bowl and winning a Super Bowl.

Again, rough.
