New York Giants 2017 Roster Preview: Cornerbacks
By Sean Dyer
Janoris Jenkins
Janoris Jenkins signed a five-year, $62.5 million deal with the New York Giants last offseason after four years with the St. Louis Rams.
Jenkins’ St. Louis career was solid but he was not considered one of the top cover corners in the NFL. After one season with New York, “Jackrabbit” is now regarded as one of the better shutdown corners in the league. Just ask Dez Bryant.
“Jackrabbit” started 15 games for Big Blue, totaling 49 tackles (44 solo), a sack, a forced fumble, and three interceptions.
Matt Harmon of NFL.com (who does fantastic work), ranked Jenkins fourth in his Top-10 No. 1 cornerbacks list, acknowledging that he has finally become a shutdown corner.
In year two of his megadeal, Giants fans can only hope for more of the same after a Pro Bowl season in 2016. Jenkins may have to step up his game, however, because Dez Bryant plans to “embarrass” him this season.
I’m betting on “Jackrabbit” in the Jenkins vs. Bryant battle and expect another year of shutting down opponents’ top receivers from Janoris Jenkins in 2017.
