New York Giants 2017 Roster Preview: Defensive Linemen
By Sean Dyer
Kerry Wynn and Romeo Okwara
We mentioned how often Olivier Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul were both on the field last year. In order to keep the prized pass rushers fresh this season, the Giants will need their reserve defensive ends to step up.
Kerry Wynn has been a key contributor for the Gmen since going undrafted in 2014.
His biggest season was in 2015 when he started seven games for Big Blue, totaling 53 tackles.
Wynn is not the biggest pass rusher (2.0 career sacks) but is a solid run defender. Wynn picked up a sack in the Giants preseason opener and despite New York’s DE depth, he will be hard to cut.
Romeo Okwara is another undrafted free agent who worked his way onto the Giants defensive end depth chart.
The former Notre Dame pass rusher made four starts for Big Blue in 2016 after JPP went down with his injury. Okwara made the most of his opportunity, totaling 25 tackles and registering a sack in his first NFL start against the beloved Dallas Cowboys offensive line.
The Giants like Okwara’s size (6’5″ 275 lb.) and potential and will keep him around as a backup defensive end.
