Live Nine-Inning Analysis of the third game of the Subway Series
9th Inning
Pitching Change Mets: Eric Goeddel
Goeddel comes in and immediately retires Todd Frazier on a pop out to Travis d’Arnaud who shifted to second base.
He then gets Judge to strikeout on a table dropping curveball. In that strikeout, Judge breaks the MLB record for consecutive games with a strikeout, previously held by Adam Dunn.
Gregorious then grounds out to Dominic Smith to end the inning, and now the Mets have one last chance to bring things back.
Pitching Change Yankees: David Robertson
The Yankees make a pitching change, and take a different look than the usual Aroldis Chapman.
In for the Yankees comes David Robertson.
The Yankees plug-and-play closer steps in and gets d’Arnaud to pop out to Torreyes behind second on a 3-2 count.
In for the Mets steps the rookie Rosario, and he strikes out, but reaches on the ball in the dirt.
An out missed for the Yankees, and they still have two to go to get the win.
The Mets have Dominic Smith at the plate who is 0-3 on the day, so if you believe in due, he’s your guy.
He would ground into a fielder’s choice to shortstop on a 6-4 play to second base. The Mets are down to their final out with Rivera at the plate, and he has gone deep already tonight.
Robertson works the count to 1-2, and Rivera fouls off a good breaking ball. The Yankee closer comes back and delivers a ball to make the count 2-2.
Rivera fouls off the next to keep the count at 2-2.
Robertson comes back with a breaking ball to strikeout Rivera looking to end the game.
The Yankees win this one by the score of 5-3.
Winning Pitcher: Tommy Kahnle (2-3)
Losing Pitcher: Paul Sewald (0-5)
Save: David Robertson (14)
