New York Giants 2017 Roster Preview: Tight Ends
By Sean Dyer
Matt LaCosse and Colin Thompson
If Jerell Adams gets the third tight end spot, these two will join Will Tye in the battle for a potential fourth tight end spot.
Matt LaCosse signed with the Giants in 2015 after going undrafted out of Illinois. He spent most of his rookie season on New York’s practice squad but did appear in two games, catching three passes for 22 yards. LaCosse then missed the 2016 season after getting knee surgery.
The Giants still believe in LaCosse, bringing him back for 2017 on a one-year deal. Like Rhett Ellison, blocking is Matt LaCosse’s strong suit. He can also play fullback and H-back.
Considering I don’t see New York keeping a true fullback on their roster, adding Matt LaCosse to the roster could be a possibility.
Colin Thompson is an undrafted free agent out of Temple. He was primarily a blocker for the Owls, finishing his career with just 19 catches for 208 yards and a touchdown.
With Rhett Ellison and Matt LaCosse ahead of him as blocking tight ends, Colin Thompson is a longshot for the 53-man roster. Depending on how his preseason goes, however, he could earn a spot on the Giants practice squad.
