New York Jets 2017 Roster Preview: Quarterbacks
By Sean Dyer
Bryce Petty
This will be Bryce Petty‘s third season with the New York Jets after being selected in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Petty did not see any action as a rookie but appeared in six games last season, including four starts.
On the year, the former Baylor Bear threw for 809 yards, three touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He was also sacked 13 times and lost a fumble.
Those numbers won’t get Jets fans begging for Petty to start this year. However, Petty is still young at just 26 years old and has a big-time arm.
Petty can really sling it but struggles with accuracy and decision-making, as evidenced by his seven interceptions last year.
Perhaps Josh McCown can help Petty continue his transition to the speed of the NFL but McCown may not be the best mentor when you’re trying to cut down on turnovers.
Bryce Petty has potential but I’m not sure he’ll ever be more than a backup quarterback at this level.
