The Trades

Few things in hockey are inevitably going to happen. Trades are one of those things.

The Islanders’ most significant trades happened on draft week.

In their first trade, New York lost its first round pick, along with a 2nd rounder in 2019, and Mikhail Grabovski to Vegas.

In return, the Isles received expansion draft considerations. As part of the deal, the Golden Knights selected backup net-minder JF Berube, instead of the aforementioned more talented players.

The team continued their busy draft week by trading forward Ryan Strome (who was unprotected, which no longer mattered) to the Edmonton Oilers for center Jordan Eberle.

The Isles lost a few picks this year so they made sure to get one back. They traded a sixth round pick in 2018 to the Los Angeles Kings’ for a sixth round selection this year.

The biggest trade was dealing the protected Travis Hamonic (and one of their best players) to the Calgary Flames. The deal was for Hamonic and a fourth round pick in 2019 or 2020.

In exchange, the Isles got a 2018 first and second pick, and a second rounder in either 2019 or 2020 (concurrent with what Calgary gets.)

The trades are over and done with, for a while at least.
