MLB’s non-waiver trade deadline is July 31st. As the New York Yankees appear to be in playoff contention, every day this month we will take a look at a player who could be involved in the Yankees’ deadline activity. These players will either be current Yankees who could be traded away or players from other organizations who New York could look to acquire for the playoff push.

We’re getting into the trade deadline frenzy of the last two and a half weeks of July. With today being the last day of the All-Star break, let’s take a look at an All-Star who could be added to the Yankees as they chase the Red Sox in the AL East.

Struggling out of the gate, the Kansas City Royals looked ready for a trade deadline fire sale.

The Royals, however, finished the first half of the season strong and may end up being buyers at the deadline. These next two and a half weeks will determine Kansas City’s deadline fate.

If the 2015 World Series champions pick up where they left off and continue to close the gap in the AL Central, the Royals will most likely add to their roster.

However, if they falter and resort back to their early season play, a fire sale could again be in the cards. Even if they hover around .500, the Indians or Twins could pick up their play and start to run away with the division. This would also likely cause the Royals to trade away their expiring contracts.

One of their expiring contracts is third baseman Mike Moustakas.

More from New York Yankees

In the middle of a career year, “Moose” could find himself in another uniform by month’s end.

Moustakas is slashing .270/.304/.559 with 25 HR and 54 RBI. The two-time All-Star could find himself in pinstripes with fellow All-Stars and Home Run Derby participants Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez.

“Moose” would fit in with the Yankees youth movement. The 28-year-old was a part of the young and fun environments of the 2014 AL pennant-winning and 2015 World Series-winning Kansas City Royals teams that were so exciting to watch.

Despite being a rental, Moustakas won’t come cheap. Sending Miguel Andújar to the Midwest could get a deal done.

Andújar could replace Moustakas as the future third baseman in Kansas City. The 22-year-old certainly showed he can hit in the big leagues in his debut a few weeks ago.

Moustakas hits for average and his left-handed swing could result in big time home run numbers in Yankee Stadium.

Getting Starlin Castro and Matt Holliday healthy and adding “Moose” to the mix would give the Yankees multiple middle-of-the-order type hitters in their lineup.

If New York picks up their play in the next couple weeks and decides to go for it this year, Mike Moustakas could be a big addition.

For our next profile, we go across the diamond to look at a first baseman who could seriously upgrade the Yankees’ weakest position.
