3B/OF Hunter Dozier, Kansas City Royals
The New York Mets need to come to the reality, if they haven’t already, that David Wright may have played his last game.
Wright has no timetable for a return this year and shouldn’t be in the team’s long-term plans.
Along with Staumont, Hunter Dozier could be a piece that the Mets acquire if they were to deal a few pieces to Kansas City as they gear up to make another run at October.
The 25-year-old Dozier is blocked at third base by Mike Moustakas and Cheslor Cuthbert in Kansas City. The crowded depth chart at the hot corner is why the Royals have been auditioning Dozier in the outfield.
While this versatility would make him a valuable role player for New York, Dozier has the potential to be a starting major league third baseman.
Dozier can hit for power and has refined his swing over the past two season to hit for a higher average. The Royals’ top prospect has enough pop for 20-plus home runs a season, according to scouts.
A solid all-around prospect, Dozier could be a good platoon player or, if things pan out, an everyday third baseman.
