Joey Chestnut won the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest for the 10th time in his career. He is going to go down as one of the best eaters ever.

As the bell rang, and the numbers were up, Joey Chestnut’s decade of dominance was etched into the record books.

A common man’s hero, Chestnut has turned the word “athlete” into something entirely different than it used to be.

To put it nicely, the man doesn’t have the best physique. He looks like anyone’s fun, out of shape uncle. He’s loveable, but he’s also admirable.

Watching the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is nothing short of disgusting. Watching a bunch of grown men eating hot dogs at an alarming pace is… well… it’s horrible.

Yet, something about it is so riveting, and Chestnut is the master.

Look at all these high flying athletes anywhere from the NFL to the NBA. They’re physical freaks, spectacular specimen, they all have something no kid has a shot at being.

Chestnut, on the other hand, is a spectacular specimen in his own regard.

He fights for the common man of America, and for that, we have to thank him. He comes out once a year to defend his title, and each year he does it.

Joey Chestnut is going to be around for a long time, and he continues to do it for Americans everywhere.

Let’s face it, none of us are perfect, and not all of us live glamorous lives. Most of us are regular day-in and day-out  people. There’s no glitz to our lives, it’s just normal.

It’s the same for Joey Chestnut, but somehow he makes normal into extraordinary.

Once a year, Joey Chestnut comes out of his home to defend his title. On that day, he goes from average construction engineer, to the world record breaking hero of the average American.
